IMPLEMENTATION UPDATE – United we stand……..

Dear Landowner,

It has only been a few short weeks since our AGM, but a number of exciting things have happened in that time.

  1. We have managed to collect 50% of the “clause 3 waver” documents that each of you need to sign and get to the secretary – Marlize dgradmin@interexcel.co.za.  No further money will be spent by the Government on the reserve (gates, eastern expansion, etc) until all those documents have been handed in. Our reserve is in your hands. Please be pro-active and come forward with your signed documents.  If you have any questions or queries, please drop us a line.  We will be happy to assist.

2.       The LOA EXCO and Government are putting the final touches on the establishment of the Game Company – which will manage the game and the Administration Company which will manage the reserve as a whole – thus completing the fulfillment of the IPLA requirements from Government.  After signature of the Clause 3 wavers and the signing of the IPLA by both parties the Government will again release further funds for the phase one infrastructure and for the expansion of the reserve into phase two straight after this.

  1. A “Report Back” has been added to our web site – www.dinokengbig5.com.  This is your information web site and contains all the current documentation.  We will add to it regularly.  Please visit.

  2. The Agreement with Gautrans in nearly in the bag! Soon (from the end of September) landowners traveling down Boekenhoutkloof Road will see the speed restriction and warning signs, followed by grids to restrict animal movement  – Speed limit will be reduced to 60km/h due to free roaming game.  From November on this road will be policed for speeding offenders.  Please take note and drive slowly – enjoy the game on the side of the road and report any strange behaviour to Marlize.  Remember it’s your game too.

5.       The section North of the Rust de Winter road will soon follow the South.  Intrnal fences will be removed and game can then roam freely. The next development will, of course, be the access restrictions on the Rust de Winter Road and the fences will be taken down between the Northern and Southern Blocks – our core Game Reserve area of approximately 12 500 ha.

  1. The Dinokeng Big Five Perimeter Game Fence is 99% completed. We are dropping the internal fences in phases. To allow the first "opening up" the DB5 LOA have put up a temporary game fence south of the Rust de Winter Road. A Local Community Contractor was used  - and these guys did an excellent job!

  2. The Land owners east of Kwalata are busy removing all cattle fences. A “Community Recycler Team" are taking down fences and then recycling the material to cover costs.

  3. The newly constituted Dinokeng Management Association (DMA), who will be managing the reserve, have elected the following Office Bearers from the LOA EXCO –

    • Mrs Jenny Stevens – Chairperson

    • Mr James Harding – Vice Chair

    • Mr Ken Jacobs – Finance

    • Mr Alan Roxton- Wiggill – Secretary

    • Mr Charl Pretorius – Director

    • Mr Stan Rens – Director

    • Mr Ferdi Lamprecht – Director

  4. The DMA have employed Lynn Van Rooyen as Implementation Manager Starting from 17 September 2007 - Lynn worked for 30 years in the Kruger and 10 years at National Parks Head Office working on the expansion of National Parks – He is a resident in the Dinokeng area and lives close to the Roodeplaat Nature Reserve.  He will be driving the implementation process of Phase A1 and will, I am sure, meet you all. Lynn will only answer and take direction from the DMA Chairperson.  Please direct any questions, queries or requests for his attention to the DGR secretary.

  5. Lynn can be reached on 083 885 6577.

Landowner willingness to get involved and help drive the project is vital – we require active participation from all of you………

We have already collected the services of a handyman who can help with alarms, someone to offer advise on building and equipment, an expert on hiking trail lay-out and general veld management, a marketing expert, a pottery artist, an avid “Blue Gum” remover, a household equipment repair business, and a volunteer willing to remove unwanted snakes!

What can you offer?
